Because of the space available for this project, we designed the system around a side sump. Instead of allowing the entire sump area to be purely filtration, we divided it into two functional sections.
One portion operates as the filtration system, while the middle glass was waterproofed and finished in black to visually conceal the filtration area. The front portion then becomes another display tank suitable for smaller fishes.
Both sides are connected to the same sump system, effectively increasing the overall water volume while keeping the setup clean, practical and aesthetically pleasing.
The result? You get the visual impact and additional water volume of a much larger aquarium system — without necessarily carrying the price tag or taking up the space of one giant tank.
This remains one of the custom setups we are most satisfied with because almost every part of it was designed around the actual space, livestock and maintenance requirements.
